Planning: If you can't decide where to go---travel DVDs are a great resource for bringing destinations to life. Travel guides and travel books are invaluable in planning your day to day itinerary. A well thought out game plan will let you relish in the excitement and forget about the stress. Getting Ready After months of planning and anticipation, you've finally booked that dream vacation and take off day is fast approaching. Whether it is a road trip to the Grand Canyon with the kids or a romantic getaway with that special someone, the only thing on your mind now is that empty suitcase. What to pack? Packing Tips: The luggage rack - every hotel room has one - why not one at home to make packing and unpacking easier. Guest will also appreciate the rack when they are the ones with the luggage. The racks fold up and disappear in the closet or under the bed between uses. Use luggage locks airport security approves.  If your luggage is locked it's an invitation for inspection.
Pack clothes straight from dryer or closet as they are and use the iron only once---at your destination. Pack an empty carry on for all those must have souvenir items.

Do not attempt to read maps while driving. Put a passenger in charge of navigating. A GPS is a great travel aid for the man or woman who hates to stop and ask for directions.
Keeping children entertained and comfortable on a long road trip is not an easy task. However, doing so will make the road more enjoyable for all. Ensure children have car travel games, toys and books to keep them entertained. Portable DVD players and a few favorite movies are a great way to keep children occupied for hours.
Take 15 to 30 minute rest breaks every two hours to eat, stretch and relax. No matter where your travels take you it is important to balance excitement and fun with the safety of everyone.
Air Travel---Fly early in the day and midweek if possible. Noise canceling headphones are a must for any traveler who values a monent's escape from babies crying and engines roaring to life. They are easy to use and fold up making it easy to stow away in a backpacke or carry on.
Lodging Safety---Ask for a room that requires accessing through the lobby. Never open the door to anyone you don't know. Use all security locks. For added safety take alone a door stop alarm.
Travel trays are a surprisingly useful container. It travels flat but when its corners are snapped together, it becomes a small basket to keep "your stuff" from rolling behind immovable chests or tumbling into waste baskets.
Each day of your vacation write in a journal the highlights of the day. Memorable moments with family, funny things the kids have said, that wrong turn that took you 20 miles out of your way to an awesome view that you would have missed and interesting people that you meet along the way. Just brief notes about the days' activities. Years from now little things that you would have forgotten will be in that journal to bring back those precious moments that will remind you what it is all about.
